I have always dreamed of doing a photo-shoot in the desert, with golden light and amazing sand dunes. Last month I got the chance to the shoot in Dubai!! The first location that comes to my mind is desert. I was just so excited for it!!
“I was amazed by the results and could not wait to work on them“
I reached out to some people as well as models that might be interested for collaborations. After a day I got a reply from Marina saying that she is interested. She does modeling and is also a makeup artist, which is perfect. It really saves time to contact more people, since my time was so limited. I sent her a concept of the shoot and details like clothing and makeup look and she was up for everything. I had some clothing I brought from the Netherlands, which might fit this particular shoot.
Getting to the Location
Finding a way to get to the desert is kind of a hassle. I could join the desert safari but I wouldn’t have the freedom to do the shoot. I had to find an experienced driver since driving a car in the desert is totally different from the normal road. Luckily Marina knows a guy who could take us to the desert. It was an instant relief. We departed early morning in the morning from Downtown Dubai, 4 am and I didn’t sleep at all. I had to prepare everything and maybe I was just too excited! After two hours driving we arrived at the Al Badayer desert. The sun was not even rising yet, so we could not see anything. After half an hour waiting the sun was up, the whole scenery suddenly changed. It went from total darkness to these beautiful lines of orange sand dunes with the blue sky. It was such a mesmerising landscape.
During the session
I was so blown-away with the beauty of the landscape and almost forgot that I had to work. I asked Marina to wear the first clothing set, which was the white dress I brought from the Netherlands combined with long clothing as accessories. She looked like a bride or princes. The second one was her black dress; combined with a lace coat I bought from Primark. Then with the third look, she had this beautiful red top combined with a long black skirt. The last look was her beautiful blue dress. All looked so gorgeous on her. Also her makeup was so on point, it was matched perfectly with the dresses. The shoot went pretty smooth and we finished at 7.30 am. We were so tired and the driver also had to work. One and a half hour driving back and we were back in downtown Dubai again.
I was so amazed by the results and could not wait to edit the images. So I slept for a couple of hours and then after waking up I went straight through the images and work on them. The next day I sent them to a magazine for publication and after a week I got a got news that the images will be included in the 16th issue of the Alchemist Magazine and would be published in November. Yay, hard work paid off!!
So here are some of the results..
