I have been doing photography for about three years now, on and off. I once stopped for almost seven months when I had my lowest point.I used that moment to do some kind of self-reflection. I was doubting my self, thinking that I was not good enough, had no idea where to go with it, and no idea how to continue, thinking about dropping my camera off and do something else etc. It was a constant battle with these voices in my head but then I decided to just stand up and promise myself that I would do anything to keep making pictures and live my passion.
I went on vacation to Indonesia to visit my family last summer. It was really great since I had not seen them for a year and I missed them so much. Being around the loved ones and feeling their warmth gave me such a huge strength and i could regain my energy back. It was one sunny afternoon when I sat on the balcony of my parents’ house, looking over the mountain and the valley. I was there for about three hours, chilling, sipping my coffee and thinking, a lot of thinking. I then said to myself “You can do it Yuni, you can do it. This is what you have been dreaming of. going far with photography is what you’ve always wanted” So then I grabbed a piece of paper and wrote down some ideas about starting photography all over again. First point was reorganising everything, like creating a new marketing plan because it was just a total mess. I wanted to focus on social media and use it as an alternative marketing tool for my work.
As soon as I came back to the Netherlands I got on my to do list and did all the steps. Started with reading blogs about using Instagram, since I didn’t know anything about it that much. Well I made my account three years ago but did not really do anything with it. I deleted my old selfie pictures and contents that did not have anything to do with photography and replaced them with only my professional work. AND It worked! People started liking my contents, commenting on them and even following me. So happy with how this platform has helped my photography grow bigger. I am so grateful and it is amazing to see how positive people have been reacting to my work. It is somehow still hard to acknowledge that they love what I am doing and even they’re inspired by it. Just unbelievable!!
After this I want to start making videos for YouTube and also writing blogs since I will be travelling more. It gives more excitement and I am thrilled to shoot more, to create more, to give more, to enjoy more and to love more.
